Chapter 3A Chapter by Chris
Jake's alarm clock went off and the two boys woke up to start the next day. Adam got ready for school before heading to the cafeteria to eat some breakfast. After paying for his food, he walked over and sat down with Brad and the others. They all sat there and talked while they ate their food. After he ate, Adam headed to his classes. The first few classes went by rather slowly and this time Adam wasn't really even paying that much attention. His mind was mainly on other things. Luckily, none of the teachers decided to call on him. By the time lunch came, everything seemed to be going a little bit faster. Adam didn't mind the last two classes. He was a little interested in science, so Chemistry was a good class for him and gym was also fun since they always ended up doing something active. Today the Chemistry teacher decided to have them do a small lab to get the unit started off. She explained what they were going to do first before letting everyone pair up to start the lab. Adam and Brad decided to do the lab together. They moved into the back and took a seat at one of the several lab tables. During the lab, both of them noticed Katie looking over every now and then, mainly looking at Adam. Whenever they looked over at her, she would quickly look away. A smirk crossed Brad's face when Katie looked over at them for the fifth time. He looked towards Adam before speaking. “I think Katie has a thing for you dude,” he said. “Really?” Adam said. “Yeah, she keeps looking over here at you.” “I don't think that would be the reason.” “What else could there be?” Adam thought a little before just simply shrugging. “You should ask her out,” Brad suggested. “I don't know...” Adam said, sounding a little unsure of the whole idea. “C'mon dude, she's hot. You could really have a nice time with her. It's about time you get a girlfriend anyway and she's probably the perfect one.” “I don't know, I'll think about it,” Adam said, mainly just trying to get the conversation to end. “Better hurry then. If you think about it too long someone else might get her first.” Adam just simply nodded, not saying anything else about the whole thing. In all reality, for some reason or another, Adam almost hoped that Brad was wrong about Katie liking him. He wasn't really interested in her, or any other girl on campus. Adam didn't think it was a bad thing though, because he just thought that maybe he just hasn't found the right girl yet. The two friends were the last ones to finish the lab. Brad kept messing up the procedure and Adam ended up having to do everything himself. By the time they did finish though, class was pretty much over. Brad and Adam sat at a couple desks that were in the row furthest away from the teacher and just talked while they waited for class to end. When Chemistry did end, it was now time for Brad and Adam to head to gym. Once they reached the gymnasium, they headed into the changing room to get dressed into their gym clothes. While they were getting dressed, Adam subconsciously looked over at Brad, who was only in his boxers and currently had his back turned on the brown-haired boy. When he realized what he was doing, Adam quickly shook his head to clear the thoughts that were in his mind and continued to get into his gym clothes. Once they finished changing, they headed out to the gymnasium and stood around and talked while they waited for class to start. When the gym teacher came out, everyone became quiet and waited to hear what they were going to do today. The teacher told them that they were going to head to the fitness center and lift weights and that they would be going there every now and then for class. Everyone in the class made their way to the fitness center. It was full of weight lifting machines, barbells, and cardiovascular equipment. All of the students started to work out, some of them trying to lift as much as they could while others barely tried to lift anything. Adam sat down at a weight lifting machine and started to use it. He didn't try to lift as much as he could, but he did try to set the machine to a decent amount. As he worked out, his green eyes wandered around the fitness center a little bit. Brad was lifting weights on a machine not too far from the one Adam was on. The taller boy seemed to be struggling just a little bit with all the weight he was trying to lift. His muscles flexed and they could almost clearly be seen through the white t-shirt he had on. When Adam realized what he was doing, he quickly tried to look away before anyone else could notice. He tried his best to clear his mind of the thoughts that were stirring in his head and tried to reject the ideas that were held in them. Adam now just stared down a little as he resumed lifting the weights, trying to keep his eyes off of anyone else that was in there. Adam moved around the room a little to work out on the different machines that were there. While he was lifting weights on one of them, a couple Freshman girls walked over to him. They started to talk to him and it could be seen that they were trying to hit on the brown-haired boy, but he didn't seem to notice. After a couple minutes, the gym teacher yelled at the girls to leave Adam alone and the girls went off to go walk on the treadmills. The boy couldn't help but to feel a little glad that the teacher said something to them. For the rest of the gym class, Adam kept subconsciously looking at the other males that were working out. Every time he caught himself doing this, he quickly tried to look away while ignoring the thoughts that kept swimming around in his head. After a few more minutes, the class was finally over. This was probably one of the only times Adam was actually happy to have gym class end. He just hoped that gym class wouldn't be like this for him all the time because he wasn't sure if he would be able to handle having the same thing happen to him every time he looks at another guy. Brad and Adam headed to the basketball courts to go shoot some hoops. This time though Adam left early to go eat dinner. He wanted to make sure he had enough time to do his homework before the night was over. The last thing he wanted to do was to start off the year with plummeting grades. Once he was finished eating, Adam headed to his dorm room. When he got there, Jake was there like usual. He was sitting at his desk doing homework. Adam glanced over towards the other male a couple times as he made his way to his own desk. He dropped his backpack onto the floor and sat down in his chair once he got over to the desk. “Hey,” Adam said, trying to talk to the blond-haired boy once again. He still felt a little bad about yesterday and was hoping that maybe Jake forgot about it too. If they were going to be roommates, Adam figured that they should maybe at least try to talk to each other a little. However, Jake didn't bother responding. He wasn't one that was able to forget things easily. Not only that, but he had enough trouble here at this school as it was and he didn't need anymore of it by trying to talk to someone that would probably only get him into even more trouble. Instead Jake just continued to do the homework that he was currently doing. Adam let out a quiet sigh after waiting for a few seconds and getting no response. He didn't bother saying anything else and just started on his homework. Luckily, he didn't really have too much of it, so it didn't take him that long to finish. When he was done with his homework, he just walked over and laid down on his bed. Jake didn't finish his homework until a little after Adam. Like Adam though, he went over to his own bed to lay down. The brown-haired boy looked over at the other male. This silence was really beginning to annoy him a little. He was probably going to go crazy if he had to go through this silence every single night. Since Jake wasn't going to talk to him because of what him and Brad said, Adam figured there was really only one thing he could do. “Look, I'm sorry for being mean like that yesterday,” Adam apologized. “Just ignore what Brad said and I said.” Jake didn't say anything. He seemed to be contemplating on whether he should speak or not though. “Come on, if we're going to be roommates, we might as well try to talk to each other a little bit,” Adam said. “Alright,” Jake finally said, a small smile coming onto his face. Adam smiled a little himself. The two began to talk a little. They talked about things ranging from what they did over the summer to just sharing their interests. Adam was a little surprised that Jake was interested in some of the same things as him. When it got late, the two decided to call it a day and head to bed. The two got into their beds and it wasn't long until Adam ended up falling asleep. © 2008 Chris |
