Training for the past

Training for the past

A Chapter by Haru Shimo

The sun was setting as it slightly peeked over the mountains afar. Waiting for its time to slumber so that the moon would have its time in the sky. The dim light shined along my blade as it slashed through a shadow hound. It bursted into small particles of data floating to the sky to create anew.

Soon as the faint light finally disappeared more than one shadow hound emerged forward. Growling and snarling they took cautious steps towards me. I stood slightly bent over my sword behind me ready for another attack. Watching their movements carefully I spun around and lunged the blade forward straight into the belly of a shadow hound that attacked from behind.

It howled as it to bursted into small particles of data. Soon after the others attacked at once. One jumping right at my face at the last minute I stepped back leaning my body back far enough that my face was inches away from its snapping jaws. Quick enough before it landed along the ground I grabbed a small knife that was tucked away in the front of my jacket and slashed it horizontally across its throat. It wasn't enough power to kill it but I definitely weakened it.

It staggered abit as it landed on the ground. Blood poured from its throat landing along the strands of grass painting them a crimson red that gleamed slightly under the stray light. It growled threatening at me as its head snapped my way. If I didn't know any better I would bet it was challenging me. I met it's gaze as I straightened my posture out both blades resting at my sides.

We stood there glaring at one other as a gust of wind blew through and we both lunged forward. It's claws out and mouth opened showing sharp teeth. I tucked my body abit as I brought the blade across my body and swung it sideways at the hound. My feet scuffled against the ground as I landed and the hound howled in pain as it plummeted to the ground before it shattered into data pieces.

As soon as the pieces vanished a voice called out to me.

"Oy! Mugey!"

I turned my head over my shoulder in their direction. Cintin stood there with his hands cupped around his mouth allowing his voice to carry farther. His short black hair brushing gently against his face as he stared down at me. Something seemed to grip at my heart as I stared back at him and at that instant I averted my eyes forcefully from him.

"Hm? Ooooooy!" He shouted out trying to regain my attention. "Dinner is ready!"

I was no longer paying attention to what he was saying as more shadow hounds appeared surrounding me this time. Their faint grey spots shining underneath the moonlight as a couple stepped forward. Only one thing clouded my mind and that was that I needed to get stronger.

With that thought I vanished in a blur and appeared behind one of the farther shadow hounds as they all bursted into particles of data. Light green data swirled around me as the wind blew gently through the field. Even so I could still hear the idiot screaming at me. I let out a snort and continued to swing my sword around in an uncontrollable rage. The more his voice echoed through my ears the more flashes of that one dreadful day appeared in my head.

No longer could I see anything as my vision blackened yet I didn't stop my movements. It was as if I had just became something else in the moment of the training session. Then out of nowhere I felt arms wrap tightly around me straining me so I could no longer move. Slowly I began to see the soft light of the moon shining down in front of me. Blinking a couple of times I focused on who was holding me.

"Don't do this to yourself." The voice was a mere whisper as they buried their face against my back. My body instantly tensed up at his voice. "It wasn't your fault." He mumbled. I could feel tears tugging at the ends of my eyes as I tried to force them back.
