Hit and Run

Hit and Run

A Story by Devon Hartman
"

Some more of the previous format I was working with in Farewell. Hope you guys enjoy. This one is a bit more morbid.

"
Whoa!

Mate, are you alright?

That car came out of nowhere.

Sorry, I couldn't get the plate numbers.

I called the paramedics, though.

They should be here any minute.

I'm not going to lie to you.

You don't look too well.

Just lie still.

Don't try to get up.

S**t!

No.

Don't try to speak.

Save your strength.

Man, they really need to hurry the f**k up.

You're losing a lot of blood.

I can't get it to stop with pressure alone.

F**k!

Okay.

Alright.

Um.

I'm sure it'll all be fine.

Just relax.

I mean you don't really have a lower half anymore and your face isn't much of one,
but, hey, let's try and stay positive.

You're breathing, so we know your lungs are alright.

Right?

And your blood keeps bumping out of you, so your heart is doing its job.

These are all really good things.

You need to breath.

Your heart needs to pump blood.

I don't really know how much you have left, but apparently you still have some.

I mean it just keeps oozing out of you.

You're right.

Sorry!

I'm not helping.

Uh.

I'm here for you, though.

You won't have to go through this alone.

Hey!

Stay with me.

Don't close your eyes.

You have plenty more to see.

I mean you're still fairly young.

You can't just give up after one hit and run.

I think I hear something.

Is that a siren?

No.

Just my phone.

Sorry, mate.

I don't mean to make matters worse.

Ugh.

What does my mom want?

One second.

I have to take this.

Hello?

Hey, mom.

How are you?

Oh, me?

I'm fine.

Definitely better than this poor bloke I just ran across.

Hit by a car going over sixty, it would seem.

Yup.

Yes.

They should be on their way.

It's pretty bad.

Listen, mom.

I should probably get off the phone.

Love you, too.

Bye.

Ha!

Mothers, right?

Uh.

Sorry about that?

Hey!

Are you still there?

Good.

You gave me a scare.

Seriously, though.

You're much too young for this to be the end.

You have so much left to see.

So many people to meet.

Things to do.

Well, you'll be doing them a little differently without legs, now, but...

Ugh.

I should probably just be quiet.

I'm here for you, though.

I'm sure an ambulance will be here for you shortly.

I mean they have to get here soon.

It's been about fifteen minutes.

Whoa!

You got blood all over my pants, man.

You owe me one after this.

Ha!

I'm just kidding.

I'm glad to help.

I wonder if I gave them the wrong street?

It wouldn't be the first time.

This one time, I ordered a pizza to arrive at my friend's place and it took
them an hour to get there due to my horrible directions.

Ha ha!

I'm sure that's not the case this time around, though.

On second thought...

No.

They'll be here.

Can you still hear me?

Mate?

Your eyes are open, but...

Oh...

Still messing with this new format. I don't think I've perfected it, yet. Constructive criticism is very welcome.
