A Homeless Case

A Homeless Case

A Sociopolitical Issue

"
Birds that flap their wings all day long will still settle once the moon gets displayed at the sky. These birds are sadly comparable to people. A portion of them wanders all day long, and sleeps anywhere their bodies wish to. This issue is contemporary and is worsening as days pass. Undeniably, these homeless people are the modern day nomads. They do not have their own shelters; hence, they live on the sidewalks. Homelessness is as worse as cancer; almost incurable.

There are about 4.5 million Filipinos who are homeless. Look around Manila and see how numerous they are. From old men with long white beard, to young adolescents with sunburnt skin " they are all present. Coming out of the mall is even a challenge as they crowd around you begging for coins. These people accept their fate as people who have no future. They have lost the will to strive, even losing their dignity as some could not even care less to shower in public. Homelessness is an effect of poverty; however, I think that a big part as to why they are homeless is because of their indolence. These people choose to live on the streets so that they do not have anything to pay for. They do not have to work. For instance, living under a bridge will not cost these people anything, yet they have that place to stay at in case of a rainfall. The National Capital Region has most of the jobs with good salary which explains why most of the people living in the provinces flock to the city. The problem with this are overpopulation and the high standards of companies that leave a number of them unemployed forcing them to live along the highways creating their improvised home.

Realistically speaking, the issue of homelessness in the Philippines cannot be totally solved even after a few years; nevertheless, I know for a fact that it can be resolved slowly. I have high hopes that our economic status will rise again; in turn, Filipinos will all have a shelter to come home to.
