Last Resort

A Poem by Harper Tate

The pills she took to ease the pain,

To make herself invisible,

A purer way than pierced vein,

And consequence less visible.

She took the pills to cease her trial,

A course to stunt the throe,

Toilsome to hold a pseudo smile,

Far easier than crimson flow.

She took the pills to blur the sting,

To end her wretched life,

Towards the drain, around the ring,

A plughole, red with strife.

She took the pills to ease the pain,

So that she herself could become invisible.

This poem is sad but true, there are many who feel like they have no hope left and think that they have no other option but suicide left to them. Very powerfully written!

A sad and powerful poem. You create a vision of desperation and a dead-ends. The repetition gave strength and meaning to the words. It is sad when we need pills for us to survive. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
