Ghost Town

Ghost Town

A Poem by Harper Tate

The ghost of our town is never at ease,

For death, disaster, hate and disease;

They lurk, they pry in the darkest of places

And leaves only pain, while the joy it erases.

Relentless, savage; it preys on the weak,

Every night it steals and sneaks.

Nowhere is safe, no one can hide,

For the ghost of our town, in each of us resides.

It sulks in our mind and tortures our soul,

It poisons our body and takes all control.

Like an infection, it spreads to the core,

An internal struggle, and we’re losing the war.

Darkness consumes everything in its path,

Regardless of value, unleashes its wrath.

A consequence is a word not a threat,

And something that you’d soon regret.

Eventually we succumb to its pain,

For the ghost of our town can never be slain.
