Selfish Thoughts Lead to Selfish Actions

Selfish Thoughts Lead to Selfish Actions

A Poem by Harper Tate

A coward’s choice to leave this Earth,

By pills and liquor shared,

Your body limp and stripped of worth,

A minor unprepared.

You seemed so lifeless, still and cold

Your contours draped in sheet,

Tears and cries were uncontrolled,

While kneeling at your feet.

Digits dialled and now the wait,

For help to come and save her,

By pebbled road with wooden gate,

In garden of her neighbour.

As help arrives and tends the weak,

The young ones wait in fear,

They tag along though all seems bleak,

Await results in tears.

All is fine, just broken hearts,

A bit of mental scarring,

As questions call for other parts,

“I didn’t mean it, darling.”

Now that all the lies begin,

To cover up the truth,

A woman’s need to start again,

Start back in her youth.
