If Only it were YouA Story by Harmony GraceA short story about a girl and boy who are childhood friends fall in love but marry other people boy gets divorced, but girl just got married.
"come on!!!!" Screamed the little 5 year old girl by the name of Celeste Grant.
"I'm a comin I'm a coming" said the 5 year old boy named Avery Whitmore. "The girled cheese and tornado soup is ready!" she said. "Celeste, it's tomato." the 2 children ran into the house and sat at the table. "why Avery, it's nice that you could join us for lunch." said the mother. "THank you mrs. Grant." he said politely. The mother went into the living room and talked with Celeste's father. "Those two do everything together, they're practically inseparable. I wonder what their future holds." "Something bright, I think." he said. 12 years later... "Celeste, come on! I'm sure you look fine, we're gonna be late for school!" yelled an older and handsomer 17 year old Avery with dark brown hair and deep green eyes. "I know, but my hair is being ridiculously stubborn." said a blue-eyed, brunette 17 year old Celeste. "Come on!" he said, and they walked to school. "I can't believe it's one more year until graduation already!" "Yes, well let's just enjoy that year." "yeah." The two did everything together, walked to school together, home together, studied together, and occasionally ate together. Celeste's mother talked with her father. "I still wonder about their future." "It's a bright one, that Avery thinks alot of Celeste, and Celeste talks as if he's the only one who exists." said Mr. Grant. "Hey Celeste?" asked Avery. "Yes." "Well, it's almost time for highschool to be done, and I just wanted to say that, I've always loved you, and I just wanted to make it official..." "I love you too, and I thought we've always been official." She laughed. "Yeah, I guess so." 1 year later... "I can't believe highschool is over." said Avery. "I know, I'm going to miss you Avery." said Celeste. "I know, I'm going to miss you as well." he said. But after college, we'll get married. "Deal!" they packed their bags and were off. they talked every day for 2 years...but then for one year Celeste didn't hear from him. Suddenly one day Celeste got a call. "Celeste?..." "Avery, what happened to you, I haven't heard from you in a year!" "I know...Celeste." "What?" She didn't like his tone. "Celeste, I'm engaged..." "Engaged, but we were engaged..." "I know, but..." "But?" "Celeste, she makes me feel, so...So..." "Alive?" "Yes." "Avery, we were gonna get married, have a nice life..." "And you still will, just with the man God wants for you." "I was sure it was you!" she said tears filling her eyes. "I'm sorry Celeste, you're invited to the wedding." "I'm sorry Avery, I will not come." "Very well...Good bye Celeste." "Good bye Avery..." her best friend and more had just been stripped from her. the last year in college went by quickly as she herself got engaged to Alec Pierce. She finally got a hold of Avery who was now married. "I thought you'd like to know I'm getting married next month." she said. "Congrats Celeste, I know you'd find the one." "I had the one..." she muttered. "what?" he asked. "nothing." she said. "YOu're invited...sorry I couldn't come to yours." "It's alright, I understand. But I won't be able to make it...I'm well, busy with my job..." "Really?" "I'm serious, it's not a lame excuse." "Ok, I believe you, how's your wife?" she choked a bit on those words, as it should have been her. "She's great, She's more than great, she's pregnant." She teared up a bit as it should have been hers with him. "Well, congrats." said Celeste. "thanks...and you too. Have an amazing life ok!" "Sure." next month... The wedding had gone well, and the two lovely couple were in bliss. they were dancing and Celeste went for a walk in the garden that was there and sat down on the fountain and started crying...she wasn't sure quite why, because she thought she should be happy, she had just been married...but not to the man she wanted. But Alec was an amazing man. Then out of no where... "You look amazing." said Avery. "What?" she turned around. "I thought you had to work?" She asked. "Yeah, well I was just fired." "Oh my word, I'm so sorry..." "Yeah, it's nothing." "What about your wife, how's the pregnancy?" "It's great, but I found out it's not mine, and she wants out." "Really!? Well you should still work on it, divorce is never the answer." She said. "Well, it's too late we've both signed. I'm a free man." Celeste started crying. "Celeste?" He said hugging her. "BUt now I'm married!" "I know, and be happy, and faithful to him." "Sure." she said quickly and frustrated. "One last dance?" he asked. "Sure..." They started dancing and talking of the groom. She muttered something under her breath that he was afraid to hear. "I wish it were you." He started crying. Then, Celeste shot up in bed. "NO!!!!" "Celeste, honey, what is it?" Asked Avery. "I had a nightmare, we both got married but to different people, you got divorced and I was married..." "woah, Celeste, don't worry, it's ok...we're married, it's forever." © 2010 Harmony Grace |
