Chapter FiveA Chapter by Harmony Grace
Chapter 5
I woke up happy as ever. I went downstairs.
“Good Morning Mom.” I practically sang.
“Well, we’re in a good mood.” My mom smiled at me.
“Yes, well you usually are when…” I stopped, thought about what happened, and just smiled, and danced around my kitchen.
“When what?” My mom asked clearly confused.
“Oh, never mind.” I said. I got my toast and went out the door, only to be met by Emery.
“Good morning Trinity.” Emery said, all the while with that smile I adored.
“Hi.” I said with just as huge a smile.
“I wish I could see you right now.” He said.
“Why?” I asked.
“Because I can tell by the way I feel, that you have such a huge smile on your face.”
“Well. I do. I can’t begin to explain how I feel right now.”
“You too? I feel as if there’s a roller coaster in my stomach.” Emery said.
“You have butterflies in your stomach?” I asked.
“Yes.” He said laughing and smiling. We arrived at school and Emery took my hand.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“I’m holding your hand. Is that ok?” He asked.
“Yeah, it’s ok.” I said smiling. We walked into class and they were all staring as we were holding hands. We held hands until we reached our desks. Class went quickly and once outside I asked Emery why he held my hand so long.
“I didn’t want to let go until we absolutely had to separate them, that’s how I feel with you.”
“We, don’t have to separate do we?” I asked.
“Well, I’m not sure. It’s just that it depends on what my father decides.” He said looking down at his shoes.
“You mean it depends on God?” I asked still a little confused about everything.
“Yes, in more ways than one.” He said. “I’m sorry that this confusing for you, but I promise, the truth will be revealed at some point.” Emery said.
“Yes, but I want to know what you are.” I said. “Well, what I mean is, are you a guardian angel?” I asked.
“Yeah, something like that.” He said.
“So, you’re an angel then?” I asked.
“Yes.” He said, and walked away.
“Where are you going?” I asked already feeling alone even though he’d only walked a few feet.
“I’m actually hungry this time. So I’m going to go get something from the cafeteria.” He said and walked off. All through lunch I didn’t see him. I felt alone and abandoned for some stupid reason. It’s like without Emery I feel completely lost, which is weird and partially stupid. I then didn’t see him the rest of the day and I was starting to feel paranoid. Which doesn’t make sense, Emery and I had only known each other for 2 months and I felt like he was my lifeline so to speak. I started walking home and was finally joined by a hand in mine.
“There you are.” I said putting my head on his shoulder.
“Yeah, I talked with God.” He said.
“What?” I asked.
“Yeah, I talked with God about my lesson, and he says I’m close now, I’ve almost completed my task.” Emery said.
“So what happens when you complete it?” I asked. He turned to me.
“I know you’re not going to like this but, I go back to Heaven.” He said.
“What? But I can’t live without seeing you, hearing your voice. Feeling your hand in mine.”
“I know, it’s going to be hard for me too.” He said.
“What? How is it going to be hard for you? You’ll be in Heaven with your father, remember?” I said.
“Yes, but you won’t be there.” He said.
“And what does that matter?” I asked.
“Well, it matters when the person I love won’t be there.” He said.
“What?” I asked.
“I love you Trinity. Which isn’t right for me, I shouldn’t even feel this kind of love. I should only be here to learn my lesson and continue on.” He said, and it hurt a little.
“So it’s not right that you love me?” I asked.
“No, that’s not what I meant. I meant that I don’t know what’s going on and why I feel more human every day.” He said.
“Oh.” I said and realized I was home again. “So, are you my guardian Angel?” I asked.
“As I said, something like that.” He said.
“Oh, well maybe you should talk to God about it.” I suggested.
“yes, perhaps I will. All I know is I’m confused about everything, except for the fact that I know I love you.” Emery smiled at me.
“So, when you told me you’ve been blind since the age of 2?” I asked.
“I was lying.” He said smiling.
“I kind of figured, and I Love you too.” I told him. He kissed me and I went inside. I screeched all the way up stairs.
“Hey, what’s wrong with you!?” My mother yelled up to me.
“HE LOVES ME!” I yelled not really at her though.
“What? Who loves you?” She yelled.
“HE LOVES ME!” I yelled again.
“Um, ok.” My mom said a little dumbstruck. I went to my room and started to blare my happy music and dance around my room.
“Hey hun, can you turn that down a bit.” My mom said, coming into my room.
“Oh but mom, how can I when he loves me!” I said.
“Ok, but who loves you?” She said finally having enough.
“Oh, right. Emery, Emery loves me!” I said.
“Wait, what? But I thought you guys were just friends? And also you told me you weren’t an item.” My mom said looking at me confused.
“No, we couldn’t be just friends. We need to see each other every day.” I said.
“Ok hun, you’re getting a little creepy now. Wait no. Not creepy, obsessive.” She said looking a little worried.
“No mom it’s not like that. We…we complete each other. Didn’t you feel that with dad?” I asked.
“Well, yes. When we knew each other for at least 1 year, not 2 months.” She said.
“Oh mom, it’s wonderful.” I said still dancing around my room. I didn’t want to tell her Emery was an angel though.
“Well here’s one more thing to consider. He’s a Christian, you’re not.” She said.
“What?” I said stopping, and wondering why she had to be a party pooper.
“Well, In 2 Corinthians 6:14 it says…” I interrupted her.
“This is a bible lesson isn’t it?” I sat on my bed resting my chin on my hands, and my arms on my knees.
“Yes, now listen. It says verse 14 in the New King James Version: ‘14 do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?”
“Hey mom, we’re not eggs.” I said. My mom rolled her eyes.
“The point is Christians aren’t supposed to… how shall I put it? Hook up with non-Christians.” She tried to sound cool. I sighed.
“Mom, why does it matter?” I asked.
“Because, you could hurt his spiritual growth.” She said.
“What?” I asked getting a little angry.
“Well, if you don’t believe the same than how can you help him get what he needs spiritually? Christians need spiritual growth.” I could tell she was trying to help, but right now it wasn’t working.
“But mom he said he loved me, and he talks to God about me.”
“Well that’s good that he prays for you.” She said.
“No, I mean literally talks to him, mom he’s my guardian angel.” I said.
“Um Trinity, that’s nice that you think of him as your angel, but…” I cut her off.
“If he’s an angel and thinks it’s ok to love me isn’t that good enough for you?” I asked.
“Trinity, he’s not an angel. He’s a boy, a blind boy that has shown interest in you.” She said.
“But then explain to me, why every time I should have been dead he’s been there and I’ve seen his face at the accidents.” I tried.
“Hun, it was a traumatic experience for you, you could’ve even seen dad. But you were probably thinking about him at the time.” She said.
“No, I know what I saw, and I, excuse me, WE know how we feel about each other.” I said.
“Fine, be stubborn, just like your father.” She said. I went out the door.
“Where are you going?” My mother asked.
“I’m going to Emery’s.” I said in an angry huff and slammed the front door behind me. I walked up the road to where he said he lived; I had never even been up this way yet. I started to reach the end of the road when I saw a rundown little church. Is this where Emery lives? I wondered. I walked up to the old rundown church and stepped up onto the old creaky porch. I was extremely careful because the wood was old and most pieces were broken. I went to knock on the door and it fell in. I gasped.
“Oops.” I said. “Hello?” I asked as I walked in, but there was no reply. “Hello?” I asked again.
“Please, come in.” said a very gentle voice.
“Oh, I’m sorry about the door I…” I started.
“No, don’t worry about it. It’s not important anyhow.” said the man.
“Oh, ok.” I said. “Um, does anyone live here?” I asked.
“No, no one’s owned this church since 1925.” said this man.
“Then, may I ask why you’re here?” I asked him.
“Oh, I come here to think, to…prepare.” He said.
“Prepare? Prepare for what?” I asked.
“Prepare for winning souls.” said the man.
“Winning souls?” I asked a little scared.
“Oh, my dear no need to be frightened.” The man said so sweet and charmingly. His words were so smooth almost like a drug, a voice that I felt that if I didn’t hear it again I would die.
“What’s your name?” I asked the man.
“Oh, that’s very unimportant my dear. For all I need, no long to hear is the sound of your sweet lips say what your beautiful name is.” Said the man coming closer to me. I felt so drawn in by his words and looks.
“Oh, uh…my, uh…name is…I, don’t” I couldn’t remember my own name.
“Trinity…” he whispered into my ear, and the way it sounded coming from his lips made me forget where I was or even for why or how long. All that mattered was that he was holding me in his arms. He then took my face in his hands and was bringing his sweet lips closer to mine.
