Let’s play pretendA Poem by Harmonies and ThingsLet’s play pretend today Let’s act like I’ve got my whole life figured out And let’s rule out the part where I’m walking the thin lines of destiny blindfolded Today, I stand on the opposite side of my bed. Nope, not lying under thick blankets shielding me from the world's beauty. Today, let’s pretend I crawl out of my shell, empty my bank account, and board that airplane to the Bahamas. And oh, what if we pretend I’m with my favorite person too - running through the coarse sands with crisp chilled air, filling my lungs - Me breathing. My skin breathing. My soul thriving. Aha! And here comes the call. I shut out the seagulls and happy gush of the waves. The loud snickering and hearty laughter give way to a calm, collected me. In my most corporate self. Yes, the call! It’s time for a meeting with the boss. No, I am the boss! It’s time for a meeting with the subordinates and I can see them all glued to their computers, eyes red from exhaustion, heads nodding rhythmically to my every command. Deep down, I smile. Fulfilled. That used to be me. © 2024 Harmonies and ThingsAuthor's Note
