A Lonely Bird

A Lonely Bird

A Poem by Anahat
"

I wish you were here, But you are not, you are there, And THERE doesn't know how lucky it is!

"
I walk along the beach leaving footprints cold and bare,
How can I enjoy the sunset when there is no one to share..
There used to be a pair of footprints next to mine,
But they washed away with waves and shifting sands of time.
All i can do now is remember how things were,
Just left with the glass of memories to stir.
Walking on the road holding her finger,
Listening to her song for she is the worlds best singer.
Hugging her I used to weep,
With my head on her lap, she made me fall asleep.
Corrected me on every little mistake,
Never she did let me break.
She has been my backbone in every situation,
Supported me on life's every station.
She was like my map on a lost path,
And no doubt the secret to my happy heart.
Just like a ray of hope in darkness,
And my inspiration for every success.
She can definitely be none other,
Except the worlds best mother.
Unfortunately came the life's bitter truth,
God had to take her away, leaving me in ruth!
Those were the hardest days of my life,
Days passed crying, shouting and sometimes in strife.
Every little thing felt so hard to do,
Missed her every moment, could not even polish a shoe.
Not even the happiest of things made me feel good,
I tried my best to smile if I could.
Its still the hardest thing for me to accept,
All the memories I often recollect.
But I just wait for an angel to descend,
Offer her hand and bend.
Holding it I could fly,
Killing all my feelings, speaking aloud GoodBye!

A very dear friend once told me the only way to be immortal is to be loved, you'll be alive in every memory those that love you share, you'll be alive in every funny story they tell about you in every single moment they find something that you gave them ... he told me this a few weeks before canser took him, i know for a fact that is true those we love live forever in our hearts.... I'm sure you're mom is proud of you wherever she is ... And also a verry good poem ... Your words touched my heart.

This made me cry so bad. ;n; I haven't lost my mother, but I fear the day I'll lose her. I almost did once when she was in a bad car wreck, but she lived (thank God). So I relate to this poem in my own way. My only critique is the line "could not even polish a shoe," because it feels silly and not belonging in a poem about sadness and loss.

Ah, that makes sense. : ) You're welcome!
So sweet the memories you hold dear. I felt your joy and pain. Your imagery put me on that beach and I heard your mother's song. I was nineteen when I lost my father and even after almost 39 years I still mourn. But each day the sorrow fades a little more and the joy I felt for what little time we shared grows stronger.

Who could forget the bond forged in the womb or of undying love between mother and child? Selfless and unconditional - a mother's love.

Nicely penned,
I am sorry to hear you've lost your mother. this piece really shines and show how she was your whole world. To lose the rock in which you have built your existence shakes a person to their very core. This piece beautifully captures your love and loss. Thanks for sharing it.
