ShatteredA Poem by HareRama
The bearded man sits up on his daunting pillar of earth above the sky overlooking us all.
He stands commanding his archers at the ready to rain their piercing black projectiles at those that walk the land. I'm here taking shelter with my closest companion watching the death and pain fall around us. I admire his single piece of armor over his heart made of a single large diamond shining brighter than a super nova. Here I am in my rusted iron chest plate and helm more vulnerable than he could ever be. He is scarred but only in non-vital areas. That diamond has saved him more times than either of us can count. His small stature was not to be written off since I've seen him be more brave than a towering Goliath. We continue to venture out now seeing things coming closer in our view. The hollow promises of freedoms are there to cover up what will inevitably be our cages and shackles. Before we can make the final step into this promised world, he takes a fatal blow, shattering his diamond. I struggle to put it back together and use it as my own but there is no solution to this puzzle. Doing the best I can I carry my closest friend's diamond as my own piece of armor. People come and go complimenting me on it but they do not see the torment it has brought me. This loss was never supposed to come so early in our adventure. The diamond was supposed to be the hardest material but it seems even the strongest can be worn down and broken.
