To Keep Others Warm

To Keep Others Warm

A Poem by HareRama
"

I'm more curious to see what others think of this than spell it out.

"
For ages I've been burning.
The time has come where my skin has begun to boil.
My bones crack and shatter from the heat.
Others stand around me bathing in my warmth.
I feel the overwhelming urge to pull them in close to burn with me.
I have become so exhausted and sapped dry of all energy and life.
There is a familiar shadow approaching my stake shivering far more than the others.
In the light I see the shadow's face and feel the nostalgia of an old love pass into me.
Then, next, there is the bitterness, self resentment, and skeptical tone of our newest encounter.
While we chip away at everything and push back what was to reveal what is.
The love that never truly died has come back with a fresh understanding.
The shivering shadow, consumed in cold while others use me for warmth.
She comes, though, with something no one has brought to me yet.
A pail of water to ease my charred flesh.
