My Misfits

My Misfits

A Poem by J Walsh

Belonging to different puzzles
with different pieces on the box
speaking different colloquials
and walking in odd socks.

Differently shaped bodies
and differently shaped hair
fitting into a miniature society
like a circle into a square.

Come from different backgrounds
and even different ideals
adapted to different travels
on two feet or on four wheels.

Previously neglected
like a candle with no wick.
We’re not forced together
but we seem to oddly click.

We don’t belong in our own pictures,
this pile of rejects increases.

Together we make our misfit canvas of leftover pieces.

I'm odd, therefore I can only really make friends with people who are also odd.
