WoodSong - Second Intermission: To Kill a KingA Chapter by The Darkest Silhouette
“I know you told me that a bit of you expertise was in poison. Subtle poisons that would be nearly indistinguishable from a natural death.” The King said, tipping his hand and readying to mind of his Mage council.
“Yes, I am quite adept in such practices.” Replied AbyssMage Nor.
“Then, tell me, how long would it take to kill a King? And perhaps a Queen as well?”
Nor scratched at his chin thoughtfully. “A week perhaps, given I have close proximity to them. Two if I must work more at a distance. Do we have a royal family in mind?” He asked grinning broadly.
“Indeed, the daughter of the royal family of Altair has grown to marrying age. If her parents were to die suddenly and then I were to swoop in, roses in hand, to extend an olive branch of peace then she would have to cling to me as the only hope for her newfound kingdom's stability. And with my gifts in ShadowMagic I haven't any doubt I could convince her to marry me within my first week's stay.”
“Truly a devious plan. Certainly easier than continuing an uphill battle to retake Trader's Bay. And the Tarta'ian interference down there isn't making anything any easier. But I digress, how could I sneak into a castle such as theirs?” The Mage knew his King too well to think there wasn't yet another murderous plan in the works to get him inside. Seconds later, he discovered he was correct.
“The King of Altair has a group called MRDR, Mages for Royal Defense and Reconnaissance, the leader of which is ailing from an awful curse. I have already taken the liberty of sending an assassin to finish the job. This leaves an open position that you are more than qualified to fill. This should get you far enough inside the castle to work your magic from a comfortable distance.” © 2009 The Darkest Silhouette |
