Summer Romance

Summer Romance

A Poem by Savannah Gossett

People say romance should last forever

If that’s the case

Then why not summer romance

If only it did

I met her over the summer

Of 1956

I was in the summer camp program

In New orleans

When I first saw her

I knew she had to be mine

So I did

I made her mine

It was hard

She played games

But I didn’t give into them

But once I caught her

It was love

I still feel everything we did together

The feeling of her laugh

The feeling of her humor

The feeling of her cries

And the feeling of her touch

When she touched me

It felt like fireworks

And not those cheap ones either

The sensation of every move she made

Drew me even closer

Drew me for even more desire

For her

Every embrace we held

Every kiss we shared

Every night we stayed

Only got better and better

As these feeling grew more and more

But like I said before

Summer romances don’t last

And it didn’t

It hurt

It hurt to get over the love and sensations I had for her

But in the end it was over

Just like summer

The way you've lead the narration of this poem with how summer stands and how it goes and how it ends and all is just so beautiful.. AND are you sure u r just 16 now? Because this feels like a good old man has written this about his "1956" old love that didn't last! Its just wonderful!
