The red street lightA Poem by Savannah GossettFor him I would do anything For him I changed I changed my style The way I talked The way I walked The way I acted For him I changed everything But it wasn’t enough Because he still left He left me I remember it very clearly It was one of those beautiful nights The sky was bright with all the stars imaginable The street light was blinking yellow What felt like eternity Turned into seconds What I don’t remember was how it happened His words, they were vague All I remember is the minute he walked away The street light turned red And the redness had consumed me He had left He had left me The way he walked away While I was crying in the streets With the red light almost green The way he left me had darkened my soul And not to black but to red Because that was the last color I saw Before he left Before he left me It was his favorite color which turned to my favorite color But what turned to my favorite color also turned To my darkness Why I thought What did I do wrong But then I realized It was the light The red street light That is what went wrong If only the blinking yellow had lasted forever Instead of seconds We would have had more time More time to love More time to talk More time to be loved But that damn red light had to happen And now I loathe the color red © 2021 Savannah GossettReviews
