WakingA Story by Hans Lillegardworld descriptionWaking Finding
awareness at six o’ clock early on the beginning summer morning when the air is
humid, the temperature already seventy
eight. The skies are grey so that the surrounds almost seem made of fog, or the
blur of sleep still in the eyes. The walker is elusive and even the sharpened
senses of the neighbor’s dogs fail to inform them of that passage. It seems as
if the entire world is waking. All stretch their arms in the air so that there
is the muscular relief of a first known day, made by some greater love. The speed
bump fails to shake the walker’s outline where some non existent car might scrape
the front and back. It signals as halfpoint on the endless morning stretch of
length to the convenience store. The shapes of trees lessen in silhouette
character and stretch also into the air. The day is welcomed as a new friend. The night
lit façade of the gas station fades to the appearance of the clerk who seems
overly young, though his appearance might be partially true as his voice
deepens for customers and a heavily inked tattoo shows up on his lower arm. He
might dislike his appearance as young and sexually feeble, though he is not. He
has worked the night shift though he nevertheless might wake with a second
wind. Leaving the store the gray airs outside remind to grab at the hope of
awakening moments. The speed bump comes and goes with the empty worldview
made of sleep motes. A perception that changes to the blank motes of day, having
been lifted by the become-conscious. All leave the notes of a song bird, having
quieted and coming to the daily routine of birds. All share almost, and are
radiated by the courage-joy note of day. © 2015 Hans Lillegard |
