Death's SongA Chapter by Hannah RoiTossing, turning, sleepless nights, Crying, praying, can't find the light, A Cheshire cat smile lights the sky, Crystal eyes, too still to cry. Silhouettes of darkened trees, All relieved of summer's leaves, Storms replace the gentle breeze, Once Wonderland has gone to sleep. Bathroom floors and broken frames, Blood moons which forever wane, Unseen ashes lead to flames, Ruby mornings from whence they came. I wonder if the dead can speak, Bitter smoke of torment breathed, While frosted skin is buried deep, And wilted roses brush your cheek. This life, a serendipity, This love, destructive rhapsody, Your name, arresting memory, Every breath like the ethereal sea. We parted at the crossing, And do you hear the singing? We said till death do us part, With beats of every bleeding heart. For every time I did you wrong, For every time you sang our song, A song of life- the life we lived, The way you smiled, my heart captive, Saluting as you journey on, A smile through tears as we sing death's song. © 2018 Hannah Roi |
