Graveyard Beneath an Unseen Smile

Graveyard Beneath an Unseen Smile

A Poem by Hannah Cordell

My past, is a path a do not want to return to

The birds do not sing, but pick my bones clean

Superior is the darkness,

I have my own light in a harness,

Now I look back at all my lost battles,

I find my courage amongst the prattle,

The complainers and the haters,

All just staying and waiting,

I wish for the day,

When all shall come and say,

“My days of envy, of wickedness, and obscenity,

They are all, indeed, left behind me.”

My wits and my words all haunt me,

Even though they were trained to guide me.

Destroyed at heart,

And truly broken in mind,

If you asked me for the darkness and destruction I could not tell you why.

Why does the sun stop rising? Why does the rain keep falling?

Until I can catch my breath, I will not answer.

Until I find the truth I am just one to prance.

To walk amongst lie knowing of a truth,

My loss is so prominent I have no more youth.

I am new to writing but, everyone says i have a talent for it. My mother was a poet for a while and won a lot of prizes. I hope to make it a step further- no, 10 steps further. Personally I would love.. more..
