Lost

Lost

A Poem by Hannah Cordell
"

When you hold onto something that has long since left it just hurts you further. If you come to your senses and let go, it may hurt for letting go too. It will save you from holding onto loss later on

"
Sometimes I think I have lost you,
I know about the internal wars.

They take you as their toll,
I cannot help you,
though it is happening just beyond my door.

This misery and emptiness,
I wish it would haunt you no more.

It keeps returning anyways,
against my greatest hopes.

How may I stop it’s will to come forth?

Those reassuring words from you,
but I’m sore from not hearing them.

I am now assured they will never come.
I will lose you as I always feared,
maybe it is best.

You will no longer hurt,
I shall no longer worry.

I have someone that I am holding onto right now and like you said, it hurts to continue to do so. But I have not gotten to the point that I want to let go. She still has feelings for me and we still have a close friend relationship that could lead to more. We are kind of straddling the fence. Thanks for sharing.

It came to me as loosing oneself and hence communicating to him. An internal dialogue of sorts. If it was to get lost, how to come back to some sort of sanity? Really then the question, aree we not always lost walking in the shades? We get guided through a dim light which if we are aware enough we might follow but no certainties given. Just look around you, not difficult to see how lost we are already. But wise at the end, worrying does not help, and focusing too much on the pain takes away from the seeking.

Intriguing write.

Thank you

This is good. I enjoyed reading it and pondering it afterwards even more. Real thoughts, real feelings here that in its own way left a residue of feeling in me. Indeed, the words and pensive tone resonate to anyone with a heart or soul--as they did with mine.

The final two lines successfully suit the ending for this kind of poem. Although they express a positive, it is rather subdued and neutral--as if to intentionally understate itself (which I like immensely because it carries all by itself half the weight and meaning of this poem--like the hilt of a well-balanced sword). Unless I am wrong, it takes the real experience of a break-up to write something this worthy of (my) thought and respect. Well done!
