Masked

Masked

A Poem by hkpt08

I act like everything’s okay.

I sing, I laugh, I smile every day.

I take my emotions and store them away

Because I know it’s better that way.

I may look like I have no fear

I can always hold back a tear

I know, to you, it may seem queer

But I’m not always how I appear

In the silence, I will remain

In the cold, in the rain

I know there’s nothing I can gain

I just don’t want you to feel my pain.

Every fiber of my being, it tore

And never ceased being sore

Wincing doesn’t work anymore

‘Cause the end of one is the start of more.

I know you think that you know me

You only trust what you can see

Understanding is the key

Or else I’ll remain a mystery.

Here I stand, still unmasked

Because no one dared to ask

It’s actually such a heavy task

To never be free of this mask.
