KatieA Poem by hkpt08I have a sister, named Katie. She sees in color, in rainbows. In her eyes, the world is a beautiful, flawless place.
She brags of this little universe only she understands Where unicorns run wild and houses are made of candy. People say children like her are put on earth by mistake But I say she serves one great purpose here...
And that purpose is: making everyone around her happy.
Her smile is my smile. Her laughs are infectious. She laughs often. She greets everyone she comes across with a cheerful tone And a permanent grin etched on her face.
Mom always tells her not to talk to strangers. "There are bad people out there" mom says. Katie would laugh and say with full confidence: "Where I'm going there are no bad people, no one cries, and no one is hurt."
She was right, of course But everyone told her otherwise.
Dad always told her that she's not going anywhere. "You have a full life ahead of you" dad says. Katie would smile and say with full confidence: "That is true but the life I have won't be spent here."
Her problems are everyone's problems. Her cries resonated in the room. She cried rarely. She greeted everyone she came across with a confident smile And a look on her eyes that emphasized her pain.
She bragged of this little universe only she understands Where dragons are friendly and stars can talk. People say her story is a tragic one But I say this serves one great purpose here:
And that purpose is: making everyone who knew her happy.
In my eyes, the world can be cruel. I see the world in shades of black. I had a sister, named Katie. © 2013 hkpt08 |
