WallsA Poem by Hanna01I built a wall Not of stone but anger and desperation I built a wall Higher than the sky I can’t see anymore I built a wall Deeper than the deepest sea you can imagine
The castle I live in is made of glass; it’s completely transparent, everything on show Other people have houses made of stone and wood They can go outside or hide inside, at whim Not me. I can’t hide anywhere inside my glass walls
To protect myself, I built a wall But I forgot the gate Now I’m a prisoner in my own home Not being seen, but not able to see either Not being heard, but not able to hear either Not being touched, but not able to touch either
You can be happy captivated, As long as you ignore the prison around you If you don’t, your world starts to crumble; shards of glass falling down and burying you But not the walls surrounding your castle Never the walls, they are built for eternity
My existence is bound to the walls If they fall, I will too They are the only thing that protects me No one is able to come in and nothing can escape But I know it’s for the better The world outside my castle is cruel and I’m not welcome
I’m not part of their world and they are not part of mine How could I? They’re so different from me It’s like fire and water, but the fire outnumbers the water and I will burn eventually Let’s face it, I may not survive in your world But you wouldn’t survive in mine either © 2019 Hanna01Author's Note
