A Lover’s Fairy Ballad

A Lover’s Fairy Ballad

A Poem by Hank Writes

Once upon a time there lived a dreamer

He was young and his heart was full

This young romantic poured out his heart

He knew how to love, but he scorned and rejected

Time moved on, the boy’s will was tested

Hurt and dejected, he had to retreat

Perhaps a dreamer should keep his feelings inside

He was inspired by fantasy and torn down in reality

He never gave up on the hope of a true love

He ventured out into the world to find her

But nothing changed no matter where he was

He gave and gave from his heart, and nothing was returned

Layers of sadness and bitterness developed around his heart

He made mistakes and he lost himself

Years of pain and yearning ensued

All he wanted was his love realized

The dreamer’s dreams became dull

His loneliness consumed his thoughts

He was restless and confused and his hope dwindled

His love would never be realized he thought

But one night, sleepless in his bed, he heard a tiny voice

It said, “I love you… you should love you.”

His heart ached and begged for the dreamer to respond

“You can never love another, if you can’t love yourself.”

And it hit him all at once and with such force

He had been going about it all wrong

His heart was pure and so good, he just gave it away

But love isn’t give and take, it is have and share

So he exercised his heart and learned to love himself

And he became confident and tougher and some say even better looking

He laughed more, he learned more, he appreciated everything more

His heart lost its layers of hurt and bitterness and was strong again

No more would he just give his heart to a pretty girl

Never again would he beg to be given the heart of another

When the timing and the feelings aligned, he would know

Love would manifest itself for the right one

And she was more beautiful than anyone he ever chased

And she was made of sweetness and kindness like an angel

She looked at him and it all made sense

The dreamer now had peace, he could dream again

She kissed him and nothing could ever be the same

No more doubts, no more fears; he was alive

He found this girl where he had lost himself

She had been there all along

He changed the way he thought and he changed his location

But in the end he just needed to change his perspective

When he did, he had a princess for his fairy tale

He had someone to share his love

And though he has found her, the story continues

The ending has not been realized

He dreams again for many joyous chapters

And a happily ever after
