Her star

Her star

A Poem by Hanin

The door to the laundry room was ajar

The path was so calm,

And the distance wasn't far.

The curtains down.

 They were a blur.

Faint sounds and shouts of pain

Were getting louder,

Surpassing the fall of heavy rain.

Vivid heartbeats started drumming in her ears

And if anything, that aroused all of her fears.

Crippled anguish, torment and sorrow

Mixed with grief and pain

That made her feel so hollow.

Unidentified feelings possessed her body

From afar,

She blankly stared,

Yes from afar...

You could see her robe of pretence

 From afar

She looked as if she never cared.

She ran, she ran

A thousand miles

Without taking a single step

She ran a thousand miles

But it is there, where she chose to stand.

It takes over her,

Over her mind,

Over her will

And over her feels.

The heartbeats sound getting stronger

And so is the pain she feels.

'Mummy, I am cold'

'Mummy,

 Don’t leave me alone'

 It pleads.

She crumbles down and falls

Shattered into pieces

Like a broken jar

Crippled with anguish,

She stared

There it stood

Shining and bright

Like a falling star.

The view was blurred and

So was the star,

It was not getting any closer,

It was getting further apart.

'It was her one and only star.'

She stares into emptiness,

Feels a soft touch

Lays her hands up high

But breaks down

In the first try.

A fading sound breaks through the darkness

 ' Mummy' !

It is getting closer from afar

So bright

Like a falling star,

So feeble

Like a bird that is yet to fly up high.

Her baby ... is dead!

For two long years,

It left in dread

It couldn't even taste a piece of bread

And could no longer

 Take in a single breath.

Broken wings

And broken dreams

Silenced laughs

And oppressed screams

The baby is long gone

To dread and coldness and pain.

...

She was left

Shedding tears in the rain

She remembers it

Every now and then

It still feels vivid,

It feels so alive

But the cut through her heart,

Though apparently healed, left a scar.
