Snow

Snow

A Poem by Hannah

Soft, flaky white crystals
drifting gently to the ground,
gathering in great mounds,
inviting children to play

On a white mountaintop,
a mellow wind blowing,
a family stands gathered
gazing at the sparkling stars

It’s February here in Ontario and there’s not a flake of snow on the ground and the norm is to have a couple feet of it. As much as I enjoy the beauty of a snowflake, I will not shed any tears if ‘none’ show up again this season :)

What lovely and vivid imagery. Especially for a girl who has never seen more than two inches of snow. ☺️

Beautiful poem.

The beauty of a picture postcard setting, watching in silent Awe. Unfortunately though, I am from Scotland and the only awe it inspires In me, is "aww, it's snowin' again" :)
Beautifully captured.

Thank you very much, Lorry. I think many people share your reaction at seeing snow.
Wow, so simple yet so meaningful. This poem made me feel good the whole time I was reading it. Reading created a strong urge within me to hit the slopes. Pray for snow and starry skies!

Thank you very much, G.W.!
This is beautiful. It makes me not hate winter so much. Lately I've reviewed a number of great pieces that present a contrasting view to this, using winter as a metaphor for death, lifelessness and drear. This poem flipped that perspective on it's head. It reminded me of the beauty of the season that can be experienced if we would only brave the cold for more than the distance between door and car.

"inviting children to play"

Oh to be like a child again, somehow impervious to the bone-chill of old man winter; to see snow and have no other desire than to throw myself into it; seeing the white and fluffy, not the dirty slushy.

"a family stands gathered
gazing at the sparkling stars"

It's picturesque and certainly a worthy dream, fantastic and yet not so far away. Maybe I'll go outside today . . . On second thought, maybe this poem will suffice. 'Cold yet so warm', a perfect summary by Suhd. Wonderful piece, thanks for sharing it!
