Survivor

Survivor

A Poem by Hana Saemon
"

Most of this was written by a teacher friend of mine as a facebook status. I did some arrangements, added a few stanzas and turned it into a poem. Credits to Maz Osman.

"
A survivor
His eyes were wet with tears
It trickled down his cheeks
He swept it swiftly away with the back of his hand
His eyes focused on the worksheet
His teacher's voice a blur in the distance
He wished he could leave quickly

Only two were told to stay back and start on their homework
He was one of the two
He thought hard about the maths question
He tried
He really did try

In the quiet corner of the classroom
The clock was ticking loudly
Slowly

The sounds of children's screams pierced through the silence air
Joyful, happy
Unreachable

His tears continued streaming
Fast and furious
Just like his hand moving across the paper
Then like rain on a hot day
His teacher announced that they had done enough
He wiped the remaining tears
He folded the worksheet
He packed his bag
He whispered, " Thank you Madam"
That was the longest 15 minutes in his life

Author's Note

Hana Saemon
As I've said earlier, I was impressed by her status, even though it wasn't exactly poetry. So with her permission, i turned it into a poem by doing some arrangements and adding a few more lines. Credits to Maz Osman. This is not my usual style but it's worth a shot. :)

Teachers have to stay aware of the impact their actions have on students. Sometimes staying after class can stay with a student for a lifetime. You did a great job with the teacher's thoughts here. I could picture the scene perfectly and I empathsized with the student. lydi**

Nicely written piece here, emotional with good imagery. It paints a picture of the weeping little boy, who just wanted to be outside with the other children playing. Nicely penned my friend, yet again :)

I've been that child many times, unfortunately! I was an exemplary student until certain types of mathematics barged into my life. This is very well-written. It's easy to see the poor boy sitting at his desk, so upset he's brought to tears, frustrated and resentful of the children who already got to leave.
"He wiped the remaining tears"
Aww, that conjures the image of such a pitiful little face!
Well done :)
