Layers

Layers

A Poem by Hana Saemon
"

His tumor got worse and this is the ninth time he lost his memory

"

Like the Russian nested doll

With elaborate films of artistry

Every single seizure

Reveals yet another layer of you beneath

Like a caterpillar in a cocoon

Trapped in the hull trying to rout

Tearing voraciously at the blue silken shell

Thread after thread, still no way out

It seems like a never ending battle

But you’re a tough nut to crack

You’re number nine in the line

Possibly many more under that stack

But just like the Russian nested doll

And the caterpillar wound in thread

This wintry prison will end, the flowers will bloom again

When the butterfly finally emerges from its blue silken bed

I honestly enjoyed this piece very much . Thank you very sharing! I think about layers that each of us have, and sometimes the different uses we sometimes are forced to create given the situation we are in. The more layers the more restricted. However, as we become more comfortable in the situation, or with the people layers begin to shed. After time we can finally emerge out of that final layer/cocoon, spread our wings, and fly with the other butterfly. Beautifully written thank you.

This has a really good concept at its core: the Russian nested dolls. It really was an ideal choice for expressing the actual events behind the poem. What is even more striking is the hope that lurks beneath the words. There is never too much of that.

Sometimes words can capture the emotion, sometimes not. This is one of the times that it succeeded, and quite well.

Thank you douglas for your kind comments! Really appreaciate it!:)
A beautifully written piece from you again Hana. Great imagery, beautiful choice in words and it flows flawlessly. Although it comes from a very trying and hard place, filled with fear and sadness. The hope that you portray at the end is inspirational and beautiful. A great write from a great writer.

This is very eloquently written. It comes from a dark and sad place but there is still hope residing when winter ends and the world starts again, fresh. I loved this, every line painted me a sad but beautiful picture. It is also relatable because of what I am going through, so all the emotion pouring out of this piece, I felt along with you my friend. You have a beautiful writing style.

I don't know... maybe you forgot because you are so immersed in it :p
So much poignancy and subtle emotional expression within this poetry I can definitely tell it is from a deep painful place. Even though it may be from such a place, the hope of a new day that resonates within the last stanza is simply superb. It holds the element of hope for freedom, liberation, and everlasting beauty from the toil of such a devastating experience one faces. Nice work.
