Mine to you

Another one I wrote for my partner who has cancer, just to let him know how much i love him

I watch him deny
The pretense he displays
I watch him smile
Joking, even as he sways

His skin so white
So stripped of life
Drugs flow through his veins
Stabbing him like a knife

He lays on me
His head on my lap
He whispers "I'm okay"
"Baby, I'm just taking a nap"

I watch as his body moves
To the beat of the defibrillator
I watch that ugly straight line
Of the heart monitor

Then the lines move
Squiggly twirly... Happy
Dub dub... beautiful background sounds
As he twitches his pinky

He opened his eyes
"I'm a warrior", he says
"You should go to school"
"I'm alright, you don't have to stay"

He feels like a burden
That I shouldn't be here
I shouldn't have to shoulder his pain
When the future is not so clear

What he doesn't know
Is how my heart stops too
He is my other half
And my love for him is true

There are good days, baby
And then there are the others
It doesn't really matter
Cause our promise is forever

No matter how rough the road is
We will get through
Love is not just mere words
Not just saying "i love you"

Remember those nights
We sat in the sand
Remember those nights
You held my hand

You made a promise
You'll stay with me regardless

This one, nearly made me cry. Such an emotional ride you take me there girl. I am so sorry for what you and your partner are going through. All I can say is that you are both so lucky to have found a love like this, it is inspirational.

I can relate to the feeling that your partner has of being a burden. Sometimes its hard knowing that you are causing your loved one pain when you have an illness and pretending your 'okay' makes you feel better even though both probably knows its a little fake, to hide the pain and sadness that comes at times. You write beautifully and take me on a journey with whatever I read of yours. Such a good perspective to read- the one of the caregiver, I'm sure my partner feels like you do at times. It's hard being strong but by the sounds you are doing an amazing job and your partner is lucky to have you at his side through it.
