From Up to DownA Poem by Cassick Dame
Dedicated to Alhena
The boy from the village Who never wore a suit of armor Tried to make it as a knight Jousting into the field of sand It was a maiden of the village Of Hutchinson that he found While riding his stallion one sunny day She was still and in shadow Her voice did not speak The knight got off his horse And walked on the muddy ground with her She felt her hair was the dirt Her eyes like the murky marsh And herself she saw as a mule Is to a farmer without any food The knight he stopped her Taking hold of her arms He spoke in his boyish voice Claimed that her hair was the leather of a buffalo Yelled that her eyes were like the grass of spring And he hugged her body as though it was A prize, and in gold, from the Lord The two love birds came to the cobblestone street Hand in hand, arms locked in Smiles beaming more than the sun They had one billion hearts behind them The love stuffing the air And the knight got on his horse Though the maiden stayed below She can't look up to another The sun gets into her eyes The knight smiled on and never broke pace Though the maiden wasn't smiling to his face She tried to release her hand But the knight jabbed her back She raised her voice The knight only nodded She began crying and falling into the sharp stones The knight threw away his hand in fear The knight tried to grab again in grief Though the maiden kept saying no The maiden was free The knight only nodded She went to her new grasslands The knight only rode on Steps a dozen times slower Till he plummeted into the mud Realizing what he'd done So without the suit of armor He was trying to make it to the end of the night Hearing the jousting from the field The boy from the village stood still in shadow
