FROM ME TO YOUTAH

FROM ME TO YOUTAH

A Poem by Haley Stone

A heart is not something meant for play.

When you decide to say,

"I want to spend my life with you,"

make sure you plan to stay,

rather than just walk away,

leaving them hapless and hopeless and broken,

sitting in the pile of pretty words you'd spoken.

Did you just get caught up in the excitement,

caught up in the moment, or whatever it was?

Were you simply entranced by the enticement,

the adventure of love, the way that it does?

We were connected, don't deny it, you agreed-

you said that something eternal bound us,

that divine guidance had found us.

I could feel you in my mind.

How many times in your life

do you think you're going to find

a love like that?

I thought you were the One.

I loved you AND your son.

I was going to move across the country,

completely change my life,

so I could become your wife,

leaving behind all I knew

to be forever with you.

I let myself fall in,

honey, I was ALL in.

You told me you wanted to marry me,

well, now, you might as well bury me

because all the life I was filled with,

all the joy I overspilled with,

all the passion that I thrilled with,

has died

in the oceans of tears I have cried,

because some other girl

sent you a message on your birthday

and you felt the need to explore these new feelings!?

Well, hell, buddy, the bullshit has hit the fan

and covered the ceiling.

Or maybe it's chickenshit

because you couldn't even tell me

with your voice--

you broke up with me in text,

and I never had a choice,

never had a chance.

We never even kissed...

think about that,

think of all we missed...

I love you

enough to let you do what you gotta do

--I never tried to change your mind--

but you owe me some explanations

for your careless exploitations

because I'm sitting here, left behind,

without a reason or a rhyme.

Because your sentiment seems so fickle,

all it takes is a tickle

for an about-face,

and someone else to take my place.

So whoever comes after me, poor girl,

be careful with her,

let it be something you see through;

because no one...NO ONE...

deserves what you put me through.
