Sorrow and Fury

Sorrow and Fury

A Poem by Ben Miller
"

First piece from Intro to Poetry. An emotional swelling of anger and sadness personified through fire and sea.

"

Like the ocean; Expansive and deep, clear and black and cool

But oh so dangerous and endless.

My sorrow is a sea, endless above and deep below.

I feel motion in its deep, away from sight.

Every creature that lives within me, is me.

every meal; thriving through cannibalism.

A fire snared by bones, boiling burning sun.

waging against hands and face,

buried and captured in a body.

Red white yellow fire flushes skin.

A billowing pain, crying screaming panic biting.

Which is more vivid to see…

My sail ship ablaze on the open seas; madly as she sinks,

but sailing on all the same. Finally quenched alone in black.

or.

All life in the deep dieing as the ocean boils,

boiling away existence as searing limbs struggle.

To shrivel in the cool, water must disperse till only

a heinous charring corpse lay at dry bottom.

Neither sea nor flames can be survived,

only choose which entertains you more.

I like that you took what could have been a clich metaphor and made it something more-- for example, describing the fish eating each other.
