A day in the life of a black girl overcoming the stereotypical issues faced in todays society.

"You’re pretty for a black girl"? The phrase some people use as a form of complement. Is it the way I’m dressed or the way my hair is laid. What distinguishes me from another black girl? Black is beautiful, bold, courageous and promotes solidarity, don’t judge me on the way I look.

I am me and when I grow up I want to be known for my accomplishments; beauty fades I want my achievements to shine. To the young girls that stare in the mirror trying to fit in to society why? Ask yourself. You are powerful and strong and you don’t need to suppress yourself. Let your inner beauty shine through.

Take a look in the mirror and love yourself, you’re the future of tomorrow. So your hair may not fall in to place your skin may be darker, what defines beauty is within you. Beauty is having hopes and aspirations don’t ever let anyone put you down, shine bright young girl and take over the world."

Nice, positive write. I like how you pointed out the racist aspect of a statement like this. Of course, beauty should derive from within/what's inside of you and I think almost everybody strives for acknowledgement for their achievements or their awesome mind/ideas but unfortunately the world is still superficial and one will be judged by their appearance further on.
