One Man, Big Dream

One Man, Big Dream

A Poem by Gabrielle Conroy
"

This is yet again another English project but this time on MLK Jr. What do you think?

"
On the fifteen of January of 1929, a King was born.
His parents never knew that he would become
The conductor of the train to peace and equality.

Martin Luther King Jr. worked with the NAACP
To stop the criminal called segregation
Through non-violent protests, bus boycotts,
And freedom marches as a peace treaty to the people.

"I have a dream!" he stated
In front of the Lincoln Memorial
With 250,000 people cheering him on
While he clenched the podium as he preached.

As he finished the speech,
People believed the rosy smell of justice
Was finally going to fill the air.
But instead...

Bang!

There he lay on the second floor balcony of his hotel.
The shrieking shot killed the 39-year-old King.

Forty three years later, his body
Can still taste the injustice,
Though on a much lesser scale
