Intended No HarmA Poem by Holly Mason
The girl has bad,old, torn,shoes.
She approaches the counter slowly. She is nervous asking for help. The lady behind her clears her throat. The girl stiffens. The lady behind her sniffles. The girl asks for a small job, anything will do. The lady behind her taps her foot. The girl shifts from old shoe to old shoe. The lady once again clears her throat. The girl opens her mouth but just stammers. She turns around and bumps into the lady. The lady has a look of disgust. The girl feels and sees it. The girl with the torn shoes runs for the door. The lady watches. The lady approaches the counter. The lady is smiling...I intended no harm, but really go to the food pantry. The counter lady agrees. The girl has another hungry night with torn shoes. With no intended harm as their excuse.
