Have you met him?

Have you met him?

A Poem by Holly Mason

I know of his name
and where about he lived
but having never met him
I have only a wish to give
My fathers name
as it was told to me
was-Gary Hammond Mayo
now gone to eternity
by the time I had the guts
deaths day had already passed
but I will always wonder
how long can longing last
I have been told I have his eyes
but no picture for presentation
I have been told I was his daughter
but his family was the main allocation
I do not know if this is true
I have been lied to so before
but wanting to know my tree
will keep me looking forevermore
He once sent me a check
but would not put my name
going through a divorce
was the point to blame
it was the only time
that we had ever talked
a check made out to cash
was not what I had sought
Mayo ring a bell
check was not to small
but I tore it into pieces
and through it to the wind
standing with my eyes closed
it rained down on me
I remember the feeling
that I had as this took place
it was the only time
my father
had ever touched my face
so if there is an ending
as this is long for me
with a check made out to cash
I will be broke for eternity

Holly I loved this poem. It is not what I expected ....... But I'm very glad I did. I read it while sitting with my friend who just lost her daddy last year. And it meant something to sit and listen to your words together. So thank you xx it's sad but shows strength.

Thank you what a image you just shared that means a lot thank you again
Hearbreaking, dramatic piece. It is moving and can draw us into the reality of this piece. I wish the character will get her wishes someday to be with his father.

You're very welcome.
That poem, although very well done, is terribly sad.
D****t. Why people must avoid living ? Your father
apparently avoided you, his life. It just infuriates me and
it interferes with all that i understand about life. We have
to be here for people. Take my hand.

Your welcome, Holly. How I wish, I could take your pain away and replace it, with loving memories of your dad. Sadly, I can't. Will you accept my shoulder, should you need it, to cry upon? Thank you, for sharing this very personal poem, with us, Holly.

Your welcome. I hate to see people, suffer, if I can offer help to them.
I am adopted..... I met my birth mom but not my birth dad..... I drove by his house once...... your poem reminded me he won't always be there......

Great job!

Exactly, thank you for reading much!
This is so sad Holly. It seems the thoughts of "what if" may be around for a very long time. It seems in this day and age, knowing who your father is/was is not as important as it once was, which is sad as well. I hope that someday you find the answers you seek. Nicely written and offered.
