Sunset Strangers

Sunset Strangers

A Poem by Holly Mason

same work place for twenty years
two people who have never spoken

same subway home for twenty years
two people on the same train

same morning ,same nights, for twenty years
never a day without a content feeling, familiar

same cups of coffee, same morning paper
not once were they aware

two people for twenty years always smile
one day leads to the next, only one shows

one person same coffee, same paper
days turn into weeks then months

one persons familiarity is wrought
one person looks ,hoping for a calm

one person lost on the way home
one person crying, faithfully broken

twenty years of the same now gone
            sunset strangers

aaah makes me wonder what may have been if they had only connected. This reminds me of the old saying "two ships passing in the night". Thank You for sharing . I enjoyed reading your writings.

Sad but beautiful. To imagine everyday these two, seeing each other, probably wondering about the other, but never connecting. Sad.
