Words of IntegrityA Poem by Holly Mason
We are all people watchers,
we are all idle doers, but every once in awhile we hear, Words of Integrity. This story unfolds as on a park bench I sit. I am watching a two year old have a fit. There is a mom,dad and an older child. All seem innocent lost in their smiles. The little one's fit gets louder, and all around people are starting to sour. In the middle of this the dad makes a wish. Mom thinks his wish and says if you want to go that is fine. Hell no, he says only this do I wish...that you will really be mine. All the while he holds all three ,then down he goes on one knee, I know I am not your real dad ,those are big shoes to fill, but if you will let me give it a try, it will make me happier still. The two year old is still screaming loud, then all of the sudden quiets down. The tears of the mother are the only sound, why would you want this? She says. Because you three are amazing to me, and damn I couldn't be prouder. Words of integrity spoken so softly, if noticed they seem so much louder.
