Somewhere, lost
In the madness of the day
You'll find me, gathering
Windswept thoughts of you
Stuffing them down
In an already too full bag
Taking with me what I can
Even though I'm a mum and a grandmum, Mother's day this year left me with mixed feelings, having lost my own mum in February. For all those who celebrate the day, there are some who won't for a multitude of reasons. My bag too, is overflowing with memories. A touching poem Delmar and one I understand.

My part of the universe accepts this as an apology. Beautiful. It is forlorn but also positive. Its that frustration about the limits of our humanity and the limits of this earth. This is not the end all be all. But this is what we have right now. I really like this. You capture the feeling of wanting to retain all importance...

in 7 short lines a powerful punch delivered. so much conveyed: the weariness of day to day weariness of getting on with life, the depth of memories, a son's love for mother, the hint of regret for not being exactly what she dreamed. Poetry, when it works should leave as many unanswered questions in a readers mind as the ones it answers. Your poem certainly meets that criteria. My first read of yours Travis but I certainly will be visiting again.

While my mother was very proud of the man I have become, we did have a rough period during my teenage years... maybe that underlying found it's way between the lines. I appreciate the honest approach, and I am beyond grateful.
Mother’s Day can be a challenge for those of us who have lost a mother, whether physically or figuratively. Mine passed away a year ago from Covid. I can sense your struggle to come to terms with your emotions here and sympathize. I especially like your phrase “You’ll find me gathering windswept thoughts of you” Your words are from the heart and so poetic. Simply loved it.

It was really wonderful though because I remember giving her the biggest hug. I like to think their spirits visit us in our sleep. I hope you have a very blessed day. Take care!
When they said the simplicity of words are the most effective, they weren't wrong. this is but a wonderful example. sincere and written from your own heart with your own personal style. the universe and your mom are all smiling because of it, she knows You are always here for her and she knows that You love her as she loves You ❤️

Will do... and thank you for the reminder. Your visit and sincere review are appreciated.
every day can fill us with memories .. that bag can certainly get pretty full. Our one day to honor our mother's is not nearly enough for some; for others it is too much. life can seem like just one obstacle after another .. it seems to make and break us ... not one or the other. for me this is a very thought provoking poem that in reading inspires me to gratitude for my bag full of memories for her, me Ma .. who was like many .... the sweetest lady on Earth ;)

ps. your confession of some resentment ... i can relate to .. i am a single Da who raised our four children from their very young ages when their Ma died ... at the age of 30yrs. .. Mother's Day celebrated in our Church was not easy for me for many years after .. as Mothers were asked to stand .. all I could think of was how our children did not have theirs anymore .. it just didn't seem right to me .. hope all is well for you Travis .. thanks for sharing your poetry ... right here at the Cafe'
