There are certain bonds that conquer space and time. Happy Mother's Day, Ma.
days have no measure
and time is no competition...
affixed to the cusp of now & forever
i wait, avoiding a wistful reflection's pause
while i gather up your laughter in bundles
as not to forget, or displace even a giggle
i leap to every magnificent smile counted,
remembering how each hug felt like home
nestled in the expanse of your brown eyes
the space that divides us... bends
and on that thin connecting line of here/there
our heart strings intertwine, and we speak softly
like savvy children exchanging conversation
through strung together aluminum cans
Separation is not the death of connection. Though this is for my mother, I tried to approach it with a universal pen stroke. I hope it reads well... your honest thoughts are welcome.

i like it ... especially the boyish reference to tin cans in closing ... i remember vividly my friends and i using just that devise. :) the theme of time, space and NOW always grab me ... being honest i will suggest using language that you normally use .. "whilst" doesn't seem to fit .. in my opinion. i hope you read this to your Ma ... i am sure it would delight her :) its a beautiful sentiment ... natural rhythm .. smooth read and emotive ... i think you succeed in presenting it as universally compatible.

Initially, it was a device just to extend the line... without punctuation, I felt it ran a little quickly at that particular junction, and I wanted to slow it down a bit to keep the tone intact. It has been a pain, changed it to "whilst" just a few hours ago actually. lol
Unfortunately, I'm unable to literally read this to my mother... but, as the piece implies, I'm sure she heard me. Thanks for the visit, and keen eye!

that's fruitful territory my friend. That collision, far more than intention I think. But this poem has the elements of, and feels true in a way.. And that is why poetry is first, rather than just the dance of intellect. Love makes poems more corporeal, memorable; like the quietness of a phone call or watching someone peel potatoes in their housecoat. You cant pretend the wonder of mothers no more than you can make believe their feelings aren't real......great poem...dana

Thank you, Dana... your thoughts are endearing, and your visit is greatly appreciated.
Beautifully expressed lines for Mother's day Travis. Memories are such a powerful thing. They connect us to our loved ones, some who may no longer be on this plane, some who are. Bonds of loving strength for our Mothers. Those memories can keep us going. My own mum in a nursing home, two hundred miles away. I can't visit her because of the virus at the present time, but I think of her every day and phone when I can. Yes, your poem has a universal feel, and I enjoyed it.

You are correct as well, memories are powerful things. At the end of it, our memories are all we have to leave and give. I do hope this is lifted soon so that you may visit your mum. Love and light to you both.
Your way with words is sublime. When we build a strong relationship with someone, it’s like we are holding Ariadne’s thread. Nothing could break it.

I like to think that memory is what gives the present meaning, and that it is something we all have to deal with in one way or another, at one stage or another. Universally it's more or less the same question for all of us. Unless you're a sociopath. Happy mother's day!

even when we loose someone we once loved to talk to, the connection of communication is still there. We still can talk to them everyday, anytime we want because they are always with us in every way. Thank you for this! It reminds me that though some of my favorite people are gone, I will still have someone to talk to in my heart

As there are bends in space-time, there are bonds in hearts'-chime. They go deeper than roots and higher than the stars. What a fitting tribute to mothers and their connections-contributions. Well written and well expressed sir Travis.
