Gated Perspectives

Gated Perspectives

A Poem by Travis Gibson (poetic heroics)
"

Another collaborate effort of Cassie and myself.

"
-Her Perspective

Briskly,
I walk along this smooth, dry road
That seems to have no end
Not even the scorching sun
Or the waft of adjacent trees
Seems to change the bearing
Of my trail of thoughts
I hasten my steps
Half walking, half running
Determined to reach that gate
And still...
My mind, body and soul
Is on you

-His Perspective

For too long,
This road has teased my feet
And that gate, where love
Promised its return...
Mocks my efforts
My waning heart suffers every step
These foolish hopeful feet take
Will my love again ever be
But a step away
Peering from beyond the fence
Shall this road
Prove to be my dusty end
The grave of this waiting heart
My love make your promise kept
Silence that ridiculing gate
And gift me your return

I can see this poem as an actual meeting of two lovers along the divisions of those protecting there boundaries. Yet it reads deeper as a allegory of prejudice or societal divisions. I like the simplicity an the ease of the read with layers upon layers to consider if we only care to look beyond the swing of the "gate".
Fantastic collaboration.

Another great one, you two. It is all about perspective, isn't it.

The two of you really blend ink well. This is wonderful. I enjoyed seeing both perspectives of the same thing. So often we suffer from tunnel vision. Good work. Lydi**

This is an excellent division of perspective. It's should not have an apostrophe. And yes, because it's me, I not only noticed it, but was compelled to point it out. :)

Thank you, John... your wonderful thoughts on our efforts are humbling and appreciated.
wow you guys, this is incredible...

as a reader, i found myself cheering for the two to find each other again.

just enough, but not too much push on the reader to get engaged...

something like this could have us saying "so?"

but not this poem..we are pulling for both to meet on that road.

well done you two.
