After The Fall

After The Fall

A Poem by Travis Gibson (poetic heroics)
"

My take on Adam's love for Eve... a celebration of women.

"
My dearest Eve...
Though our father has shunned us, and banished our feet
from the soft grasses of paradise. I will not leave you,
nor should you leave me. While I regret our disobedience,
I carry burden so heavy, for I had never seen you
more beautiful till that vile fruit passed imprudent lips.
In an instant, your image became incomparably radiant,
all shade fled from your spot. Every sense loaned to me
darted toward you. I knew then why he caused me to sleep
whilst making you, even the exquisite rose envies such craftsmanship
and would surely call itself an onion should it be compared.
He pulled me from dust and you from me, your seat
must sit nearer to his divinity than my own.
Would he curse this flesh further, should this heart fashion
a smile after the whispering serpent found success on wavering ears?
What of that forbidden fruit? should my tongue remember it bitter,
should it felt of fire to my hand? Do I deny it's reveled truths?
The splendor of your beauty eclipses even that of the Eden
we shall never know again, only the heavens know a height beyond yours.
This damned soil and tainted mortal parts are all I can lay upon your feet.
Find them worth keeping and I shall spill of song so true,
the most dutiful angels will cease their actions and point an ear towards you.
Let us find shelter within these trees, and build a home within our hearts.

Such an exquisite vision of the age old story...one wonders what Adams thoughts were after the fall from grace. Your pen has spoken for him in words beyond compare. What else can I say...I'm honored just to read this.

Thank you, Red. I'm elated to receive such inspiring words, it truly is rewarding.
Ok- this is beyond beautiful. You've created something gorgeous from the frailties of our mortality and imperfections. The glow of knowing we are part of each other and our time is limited only makes the bond more intense, and in your words radiant. Eden may have been heavenly but the fall, I think, was sublime. This is totally exquisite and retells the story from the point of view of love and appreciation borne of temptation and fire.

Seriously, one of the best sigh-worthy poems I have read.

Thank you, I wasn't sure of the structure of this piece. You've nullified that worry.
Incredible how "human" this poem seems; no pretenses or "religious propaganda of any kind," just a purity of the senses and emotions that seems to contradict the Biblical perspective without the blatancy and offense that may cause controversy and dissent. It's a man, the very first man, who has given up his perfection, not for a taste of a fruit on a tree, but for a taste of the women given to him by God Himself. It's clarifying part of God's curse that their eyes would be opened, but what the man sees is beautiful and he is smitten by her. This poem is so beautiful because sometimes our eyes need to be opened to others even as we're damning ourselves by doing it. Beautiful poem!

So beautiful! The word choice was perfect, it was very smooth and flowed nicely, and the theme was something I had never seen before. I absolutely adore this poem, and it has very easily become one of my favourites!
