Self Portrait

Self Portrait

A Poem by Travis Gibson (poetic heroics)
"

For WC... my first piece composed entirely on WC.

"

Dark, coiled locks cascade down

passing broad shoulders;

framing a chocolate brown face

with high cheek bones,

and a slender button nose.

Full lips that love to kiss

dreams and high hopes.

The strongest feature

are those eyes,

strangely, they hold within them

strength and weariness.

They've seen too much, but

still they refuse to shut.

They paint such a tragically,

beautiful portrait...

that I am glad to call my own.

You have painted a self-portrait that suggests your inner self by the things you say about your physical characteristics. That is not easily done and you did it very well. Your inner strength in the face of pain and tragedy shines through along with your readiness to love. Excellent poetry!

An open and honest description of oneself, portraying both humanity and decorum within your words!

Splendid indeed my friend!

you painted in words a vivid picture of you. the phrase i love best is those pertaining to the eyes:
"The strongest feature
are those eyes,
strangely, they hold within them
strength and weariness." ---utterly wonderful!

Thank you, gabrielle... I appreciate such a lovely review.
Interesting self portrait....I found the imagery very vivid and the language really lent itself to the idea of painting a picture. I like that you put in feelings along with the visuals "Full lips that love to kiss" -- nicely done. I think you executed the challenge with grace and beauty.

Travis, this self portait is so good. You give us little glimpses of not only your physical features, but of what is inside, too. I see a beautiful, sensitive man inside and out. Well done! Angi~

Pain and weariness, I like the combination, sour and sweet I think it is good to blend a readers mind , to direct it in directions , down roads it would not walk on its own. Good job.
