The Incredible Shrinking Me

The Incredible Shrinking Me

A Poem by Travis Gibson (poetic heroics)
"

her eyes effect

"

with every look from your eyes

i grow smaller... ever shrinking

your stare siezes me

i have yet to find the strength

to dare look away

still shrinking---

the sight of you keeps me captive

i stand before you

as tall and proud as i can

and yet, that look in your eyes...

humbles me

never have i experienced such

unsettled comfort

i wonder why

you have yet to look away

then again---

i'm relieved you haven't

i continue to shrink

and i'm unable to stop it

its only secondary

to the power of your gaze

your intrigue puzzles me

but i refuse to question it

even as i reduce in size

i'm grateful you pay me such attention

why do you effect me so?

i keep asking myself---

in your company

i feel next to insignificant

but you still have yet to look away

so i'm thankful you still can see me

by now i must be too small to be seen

how am i being noticed by you?

fearful i will soon shrivel into nothingness

i intensely stare back at you

then i see it---

it's in your eyes... i'm gigantic

It worked perfectly and my pleasure always....
To our loved ones we are can be everything. I think your poem deals with the phenomenon known as 'projecting' brilliantly PH

I am honored and humbled to know that, thank you. I will be sure to do just that... write.
That is beautiful work. How small you seem, how weak and insignificant you feel until you are finally able to catch glimpse of yourself through her eyes and realize that you are truly awesome. A very nice piece P.H. A natural progression that leads the poem full circle. You end where you began and yet you arrive at a completely different conclusion. Very well thought out and executed.

It was my pleasure to read it.
This was beautiful :) Feelings like these are so real but when you realize that it's how others see you and feel about you is that can be so powerful and eye opening. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. Anyway, the feeling in this piece jumped out at me. It flowed nicely and the sweet conflict was great.. thanks for sharing this :)

Love this - so often we perceive that we are "nothing", only to realize that to at least one person, we are everything. That changes our whole world. Well done!

Magnificent write! You captured an insecure feel perfectly, only to realize you are more to the eyes of the beholder.
