Beauty, RestA Poem by Travis Gibson (poetic heroics)while i watched her sleepThe world around her gives no breaks And time gives no slack Always at the center of eager eyes And pursued by the greedy hands of men.... Their want knows no bounds Day in and night out, beauty obliges as much she can But she can never give enough So the chase for beauty is ceaseless I can see the blisters on her feet The weariness of her existence is pouring through her eyes And still... they come for her Like a sea of crows They gather around her Necks fixed forward, eyes glazed with lust Each squawking for a turn Overwhelmed... beauty succumbs Now, I can barely see her The world around her is eating her up And it intends on leaving nothing to spare I almost let things run it's course Until I thought of a tomorrow --- without beauty What then does the sun become What is the use of a song, or it's melody The laughter of children... what reason is left to smile Even worse, what becomes of an already scary world If even beauty has no place I race to be at her aid I dive into the masses and search for beauty I pull her from the hold of the insatiable And without hesitation... I run They give chase... so I run harder Finally, beauty and I are alone I assure her these hands want nothing, but for her to rest easy She settles in my arms, looks at me and asks What is it I really wish of her I place my finger over her lips And I say only what needs to be said...
