Security BlanketsA Poem by Heidi CauseySecurity Blankets An echo is a memory It resounds from a sound A fleeting moment in our future A glimpse of the past A flickering flame echoing A memory of life’s sounds In winter It creaks as it heats The house sets fire to my life A flame dancing Flickering of winters night memories gone As the heat fades Memories of winter bon fire come to pass We pull blankets of memories from the past Memories from the settling ash We smell of fading winter bon fires An echoing memory of the past An echo A ring that rings An echo that turns, blinks, flashes All mimicking memories of bon fires past The echo, the ring, a ring And I answer To the echo I lie Saying calmly- No, I’m all right With echoes of past winters nights I close my eyes Holding my blankets of sooted memories To each echo I lie I lie Saying I’m alright To the thought of this winter's night © 2014 Heidi CauseyReviews
