Bride so brightA Poem by HammerschildThis is a poem to my wife for our anniversary. It details ( with little artistic license) how we met and married. In less than 7 hours....... LOL that was 16 years and 4 children ago.
As I walk through the fair.
I catch a glimpse of red and gold hair.
I watch her pass. Striding with grace. She turns and I behold her beautiful face.
Rosy cheeks and lips, emerald green eyes. Bosom so full .with each breath I see rise.
She is walking to me, my head in a daze. Powerless to break this sirens sweet gaze.
She bids me good day. I can hardly speak she has laid low my courage, my will has become weak.
My senses are regained .In my heart love blooms. I hope she is my Savior and not a fool’s doom.
I take her hand in mine. Never have I seen a lass so divine.
We walk to the hill and she lays her cloak down. she bids me sit beside her. I obey like a simple minded clown.
We speak of dreams and lives so grand. Or dreams are parallel, of children, a home, and land.
The warriors will , never bound for long. I regained my courage and ask for a song.
From her lips a sound so sweet. all the while pondering my dirty feet.
The song is over and I am overcome. I will marry this girl before the setting of the sun.
I turn and tell her she is to be mine. with but one promise she says that would be fine.
Make me a mother and a home to be proud. and I will take your name and the tartan MacLeod.
There are no priest's here upon this hill. An oath upon my sword . this duty will fill.
Once and never again have I bent my knee. But to this maiden I swear to thee.
My life, my love , my blood I have sworn. To this bride so bright . was mine by morn.
never a man was happier possessed. Than this warrior has been with the maid in the purple dress. © 2012 HammerschildFeatured Review
