Nihilism isn't that bad actually

A reflection on the philosophical concept called nihilism.

Why nihilism isn't that bad actually

Hi I’m Anthony and today I'm gonna talk about something I truly believe in. Nihilism is not a bad thing. If you don't know what nihilism is, it's the concept that nothing in the universe matters and that we are all around for no purpose at all and basically everything in the universe is bullshit. 

The problem with this is that it does sound pretty negative, and I can admit that it can be. But that's only if you use it as an excuse to be an a*****e, which in the past I have. 

I have used nihilism as the reason to be mean and belittle other people because they dont matter at all to the universe. I have cussed people out, pushed them over, flipped off random people all because I didn't care. But it's not the only way I've used nihilism. Another way I've used it is as an excuse to not do anything. Because if nothing matters, why should you try? Nihilism can indeed be a reason for depression if you see it that way. But that's how I used  it in the past and that is how it can be used, but it doesn't mean it should be used that way. You CAN choose to smoke cigarettes and/or drink, but that doesn't necessarily mean you should, because it can hurt you and other people around you.

In my view, nihilism can be used to be a reason to be a dick or be depressed, but it can also be used to feel free. If nothing in the universe matters, then why do what everyone else does? Do whatever you want. Write a novel or a song, who cares if it's bad, it doesn't matter anyway. That was my reasoning for starting to write an autobiography. Support charity, it doesn't really matter so why not. That's why during school drives in middle school I would give away all my money. 

To me, nihilism has been a way to make it so you can do anything you want, but I had to be able to target it in the right direction. Nihilism can be your philosophy and how you see the world, but it doesn't mean it has to be your moral code. Nihilism doesn't have to be an excuse to not do anything, it can be an excuse to do what you want and help whoever you want. It's a skill that not a lot of people can have thanks to social norms, but if I can use it as a reason to be a half decent human, it can't strictly be a bad thing as it seems.
