Chapter FiveA Chapter by Roxii"Mackenzie!" My eyes were open and I was out of bed before you knew it. The Queen peferred my help in the morning, no maids or hunky men to help her, she just wanted myself. Why? I have no clue. Most of the time, I would change into my clothes I prepared for the next day. That way, I could get out of bed and go straight to the Queen. She usually laid in bed till I got there. It didn't usually take long, considering the fact that she had me living right down the hall from her. I hurried even quicker when she called my name for the second time. "Mackenzie, where are you?!" As I open her large bedroom door, she is lying flat on her back. "I am terribly sorry your heinace. I was up late last night planning your party for you." She looked at me with a little bit of shock. "But I didn't tell you that you had to do that. All I asked of you was that you got some rest." She looked at me with a small hint of suspicion in her eyes, aven though she had nothing to worry about. "Your majesty," I started softly, "I promise you that that is what I was doing. I wanted to catch up on the work, and I thought you would be happy with thyself if I got ahead." "Oh." Her voice trailed as her eyes were down. She must of thought bad of me. "I apologize," she said, "I don't ever have to worry about you, and yet I doubted your honesty." The Queen at least had some sympathy. The Black Queen was a different kind of ruler. She was fair, she showed some sympathy, even though it's hidden. We thought it would be different, but all are content with her ruling ways. "You don't have to apologize to me, you are royalty, and I a part of the peasents. I am just greatful that my mistress gives me this much access." "To what dear?" "To your trust, home, work, and thy heart." Just then, she seemed touched. Then, we smiled in unison before she said: ~~~~~~~~~~ I helped the queen bathe, dress, and accesorize as always. Though I, as her right-hand woman, helped her with almost everything, it's not as if I am her only help. Of course, as Queen, she had much help. I was hanging up the clothing the Black Queen disagreed with for the day, and when she walked to the closet doors. She leaned against the door frame while I hung up a pair of pure-white skinny jeans. I tried not to let her know I knew she was not there. I wanted to be good and pay attention to my work. "Hey," she said. I stood, fluffed out the front of my white maids outfit, and bowed my head in respect. "Yes, madam. What may I do?" She just looked me up and down for a moment and then she set her eyes on my pockets. "Now," she said softly, "don't take offence to this, but Empty out your dress pockets." I was a little confused at first, but I did as she asked. The sound of my black heels clicked loudly as I crossed the white marble floor to the dresser next to the door. I pulled out the cellphone she gave me for when I'm needed and not around, a stick of gum, a pencil, and a hair-tie. The Queen eyed my pocket contents carefully. "My Queen," I say kindly, "may I ask what is wrong? What might have I done to cause you displeasure?" As she looked at the contents, she was in deep thought. Then she snapped out of it and looked me in the eyes with those two perfect clean-cut blue eyes. "I must apologize again," she said with a slight grin, "you see," she turned around and began to walk around the room, "I am missing something." I gazed at her in shock. "What do you mean, your majesty?" "Well," she began, "it's simple. Do you remember that black ruby necklace that I wore the day my ruling began?" Oh yes. I remembered that day quite well, actually. But I just stood and nodded my head. "Well, someone has taken it and I was just checking to be on the safe side. Understand?" "Yes." I said. "Completely." She looked at me for a moment, then headed for the door. "Finish cleaning up in here, come down and eat, and then we shall leave. But, I am giving you an hour to do this." As she walked away towards the door, that's when she called me again. "Ummm ... Mackenzie?" "Yes?" "You woldn't happen to have an idea who might have taken my necklace, do you?" I stood and thought for a moment as she tapped her long nails against the door. "No, your majesty, but I will get right on that!" She looked at me for a moment, nodded her head, and took off. As I turned to finish, I just shook my head. I had a pretty good idea who it was actually. So, I just muttered the name under my breath as I got back to work. "Kristina ..." © 2013 Roxii |
